Learning is a continuous renewal and evolving entity, progress is achieved through constant learning. What you knew yesterday may no longer be relevant today, especially in the realm of fast moving world of tech.
If your work involves using any kind of software, every time a new version is released it certainly comes with new features, just like the ones before it. Software gets updated all the time, if you are not learning and adapting, you are stuck in the past while everyone else moves forward.
Have you noticed how outdated references are no longer accepted in modern research? Whether in universities or colleges, recent reference and information are required because references from before 2015 are often rejected because they can’t keep up with today’s knowledge.
That is why workplaces whether government or private (NGOs) host seminars, workshops, retreats and conferences regularly to refresh knowledge and enhance staff capacity, renew perspectives and improve skillsets.
Look around today, everything revolves around AI. People say AI will take over human jobs, but this only applies to those who are not updating themselves with current knowledge. Don’t be afraid of AI, it is not here to replace you, it is here to help you, if you stay updated and informed.
Even with a PhD, the journey doesn’t end. You still have postdoctoral studies. Learning is for life, it should never end until life itself does.
If you are young, your 20s is your building stage. Do not isolate yourself in environments where you are the most skilled. Surround yourself with those who can challenge and teach you. Your 20s are for learning and building. Career-wise, most people begin at the entry level. In most industries, no one hires you straight into top positions, you start at entry level unless they have prior solid experience elsewhere.
The moment you start thinking you already know everything, you will become stagnant. The world is moving fast. If you don’t continue updating yourself, you will fall behind and eventually, you would be forgotten, time will move on with or without you.
Learning never ends, and that is how we grow.
